COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Missoula city is deconstructing the closed Johnson Street shelter *with potential for redevelopment* near MRL Rail Link Park and plans to sell the land after gathering community input via an RFP-design team. Some local residents have noticed fewer disturbances and hope the project will boost neighborhood activity.  KPAX
  • Two dogs were rescued from Flathead Lake on Monday morning while Missoula officials clarified at a council meeting that local police do not check immigration status, and over 4,000 residents signed a petition opposing a proposed gravel pit near Blackfoot River. ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A garbage truck fire in Missoula was quickly put out at 11:09 a.m. after the driver dumped the load onto a nearby street to allow firefighters to reach the flames, and no injuries were reported.  MontanaRightNow

  • Missoula's Top Hat will host a concert series starting today with Tank & The Bangas with DJ Zeus followed by shows featuring Daniel Donatos Cosmic Country on Feb. 3 and Hayes Carll on Feb. 15, with more acts scheduled through May at this downtown venue.  Newstalk KGVO
  • Montana artist Josh Shaffner used hand-drawn animation for Billy Idol’s documentary 'Should Be Dead,' which debuted at Tribeca last year and will be released in theaters later this year. He continues to draw creative inspiration from Montana summers in Missoula.  Newstalk KGVO

  • UM scientist Brian Loyd and colleague Andy Kittelson secured a $4.8 million grant to develop a yaw-plane rotary chair for Navy pilots plus an additional $1.5 million grant to aid brain injury research; UM research posted a record $149.9 million in FY 2025 expenditures.  Newstalk KGVO

  • On Friday, the Montana Environmental Information Center sued Lincoln County in district court to force the release of documents related to a June petition to raise Lake Koocanusa’s selenium standard. The suit questions county transparency & seeks clear access to public records.  Missoula Current
  • USDA launched the Regenerative Agriculture Pilot Program to provide $700 million for Montana farmers & ranchers to improve soil health, water management, and land vitality. The program lets producers submit one application to access reimbursements when using regenerative practices and will start accepting applications soon.  Montana Public Radio
