COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Missoula’s historic Engine 1356 has been added to the National Register of Historic Places—qualifying it for restoration grants and future work. Volunteers plan to rebuild the cab, patch the tender, and repaint the engine at its Higgins Avenue location in coming months.  Newstalk KGVO
  • CSKT Early Childhood Services Program is hosting Love at First Sight, Baby Fair 2026 today from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Salish Kootenai College, where lunch is provided and community organizations will offer haircuts, pregnancy education, job opportunities, and health services.  KPAX

  • Plonk restaurant in downtown is for sale at $4 million as owner Brett Evje, who has run the business for nearly 13 years, plans to move to Bozeman while keeping the restaurant open during regular hours (sale includes the building, liquor license, furniture, equipment, and inventory).  Missoula Current

  • UM students are opposing a proposal to cut the master’s literature program due to declining enrollment, after the school recommended ending both its literature & economics programs last week. The university may review student feedback as the debate continues.  Missoulian

  • Missoula Police warn that most of Mount Jumbo is closed for wildlife protection from Dec. 1 to Mar. 15 — the northern 650 acres remain closed until May 1, and trespassers may face citations and fines up to $500.  KPAX

  • Developers in Missoula have lined up seven projects for review under the recently approved Unified Development Code, aiming to free older housing stock for potential affordability; however, new construction is expected to remain costly due to high building expenses (Sterling Commercial Real Estate).  KPAX

  • The Montana Grizzlies have named Brent Myers as the offensive line coach after his success at Weber State, where he helped win four Big Sky championships from 2017 to 2020.  Missoulian
  • Bobby Kennedy was introduced as the new head football coach at Washington-Grizzly Stadium on Thursday after serving as the wide receivers coach for the Grizzlies. He outlined his vision to lead the team moving forward.  KPAX
