COMMUNITY NEWS

  • UM College of Business students will help prepare basic tax returns for individuals or families making $60,000 or less at the UM VITA program this Saturday at Gallagher Business Building, Room 222 through March 14. Appointments are required as space is limited.  Newstalk KGVO
  • AniMeals Adoption Center and Animal Food Bank is asking locals to donate cat food as supplies run low with kitten season approaching. Donations can be dropped off at 1700 Rankin Street.  MontanaRightNow

CULTURE NEWS

  • Mumford and Sons will perform on June 4 at Bozeman's Bobcat Stadium with Sierra Ferrell opening to kick off live music events in Montana. Meanwhile, Missoula's Washington and Grizzly Stadium will host a show with Post Malone and Jelly Roll as Montana expands concert offerings.  Newstalk KGVO

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Submissions are open for the Montana Law Enforcement Appreciation Poster Contest for elementary students, a partnership among the Attorney General’s Office, Montana Highway Patrol and Stockman Bank; each district winner will receive $250 and an ice cream social, and the state champion earns an extra $500 plus a ride-along.  KPAX

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Conservation groups oppose the plan to repeal the Roadless Rule for national forests and call for public meetings to discuss its risks to Montana's wild lands. Montana Trout Unlimited will hold a session in Missoula Public Library Cooper Room (Monday, March 9, 6-7:30 p.m.) as part of a state-wide series.  KPAX

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A city agency is committing $400K to upgrade the Missoula river corridor to enhance local waterways. A Trout Unlimited representative said this is the nonprofit’s largest project in Montana.  Missoulian
  • Engineers are finalizing plans for the Russell Street project to widen the corridor and improve safety for bikes, pedestrians, and transit in Missoula. Construction is expected to start in 2029 (all funding is secured).  Newstalk KGVO
  • Missoula County Commission approved the long-awaited Swan Valley Neighborhood Plan Feb. 20, which preserves the region's rural character, protects natural resources, and ensures access to public lands. Co-chair Helene Michael said the non-regulatory plan will guide local government decisions (with nearly 90 percent of land publicly owned).  Montana Public Radio

  • Missoula officials expect to close on a downtown parcel next month when Averill Hospitality finalizes its purchase, supported by $20,000 from the Redevelopment Agency. The buyer will plan a hotel, conference center and public infrastructure to extend the Riverfront Trail.  Missoula Current
