COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Missoula-based Hope Rescue Mission will close its 18-month women's recovery center by Aug. 1 due to budget constraints — the nonprofit will continue street-to-shelter work with housing, classes and Friday sandwich distributions under Beartracks Bridge.  KPAX
  • Missoula County approved the Human Resource Council's grant application on Tuesday to continue funding community programs—housing assistance, childcare, job training, and literacy classes. The programs serve western Montana counties and will further support emergency housing efforts, including new projects in Ravalli.  Missoula Current
  • Wilbur, a puppy from a local litter, was featured at Take Me Home Tuesday at the Humane Society of Western Montana and awaits adoption. The society will hold Pack the House—a benefit with live music and raffle prizes—March 5 at the Wilma Theater, with tickets available until 5:30 p.m.  Newstalk KGVO
  • The Frenchtown Community Advisory Group says EPA reps mostly skip scheduled meetings + informal brewery sessions that leave key cleanup issues at the Smurfit Stone mill unanswered.   • Taylor Sheridan’s new drama The Madison will premiere Saturday, March 14 on Paramount+ after filming in Montana’s Madison River valley, including Ennis and Bozeman.   • Northern Cheyenne elders & cultural leaders reclaimed dozens of culturally significant items from UM, including recordings & documents that highlight tribal heritage. They traveled from the southeastern Montana reservation to the UM campus to recover their community’s history.  Missoulian

  • UM professor Dr. Mehrdad Kia (a defector from 1979) said his contacts in Iran show a growing resolve to end a 47-year regime, noting that the people need a united push for free elections rather than change through civil disobedience as seen elsewhere.  KPAX

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • City officials say trespassing on Mount Jumbo increased by 300% and raised concerns for the elk herd as winter closures remain in effect — extra measures protect local wildlife.  Missoulian

HEALTH NEWS

  • During National Nutrition Month, Big Sky Culinary Institute at Missoula College shared healthy eating tips by encouraging students to cut back on butter and salt while increasing vegetables, fiber and protein in meals. Its director and second-year students offered budget-friendly tricks, including using frozen vegetables to boost meal nutrition.  MontanaRightNow

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • A report from the local Realtors showed that rents increased in 2025 while costs such as property taxes and insurance also rose. Rental unit counts grew by 25% and one- and two-bedroom rents saw double-digit increases — new multi-family units were built more slowly.  Missoula Current
