COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Rising gas prices have increased costs for Meals on Wheels, which serves about 2,000 Missoula County residents as more than 100 dedicated volunteers deliver meals using their own vehicles + funds for gas. The program remains committed and is promoting its March for Meals fundraiser.  KPAX

CULTURE NEWS

  • Today, Mr. Gyro launches as a new Greek food truck in Missoula, offering gyros (with meat, feta, and tzatziki) and other Mediterranean dishes; the truck will share its schedule on Facebook for locals to track its stops.  Newstalk KGVO

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Missoula's Mountain Line has introduced electric buses to counter rising gas prices and maintain stable fuel costs. CEO Jordan Hess said the new system is expected to lower emissions while keeping operations predictable for riders.  MontanaRightNow

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The University of Montana named Yoichiro Kanno as the new Chair of Fisheries Science, backed by $5 million from 56 donors to study warming water and shrinking snowpack on trout habitats (noting a 55% decline in some rivers).   • A statewide trust to pool school district health insurance has met state requirements and now can access $40 million for over 200 districts. Helena Public Schools and others will join as open enrollment starts in May with coverage set to begin July 1.  KPAX

  • More than 200 residents met at the Missoula Public Library's Cooper Room to oppose a proposed rollback of the Roadless Rule that protects 6 million acres & wildlife habitat.   • The Missoula Rural Fire District earned International Accredited Agency status Tuesday after a self-assessment with the Commission on Fire Accreditation International, making it the second fire department in Montana to achieve the honor (Fire Chief Paul Finlay noted the milestone demonstrates their top service commitment).  KPAX
  • Flathead National Forest held a public meeting in Condon on Monday, Mar. 9 at Swan Valley Community Hall to discuss its proposal for a long-term wastewater solution for Holland Lake — residents asked about potential expansion while officials said a final decision is expected in June.  KPAX
  • Emergency management officials are urging residents today to secure outdoor items and charge cell phones as wind gusts up to 70 mph are forecast in Missoula, and they advise avoiding travel + reporting downed power lines immediately.  MontanaRightNow

  • A notice from Caras Property Management stated that historic Howard's Apartments on Main and Ryman will close for structural renovations and require all 35 tenants to leave, with the final five scheduled to vacate by Friday, Mar. 13, sparking concerns over affordable housing.  KPAX

  • Money Williams scored 40 points with 7 rebounds and 3 assists in Montana's Big Sky quarterfinals win over Northern Colorado Monday night. His career-high effort moved him up to 15th on the all-time scoring list with 648 points this season, the fourth-highest in Grizzly history.  Newstalk KGVO
