ECONOMY NEWS

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Meteorologists say Montana’s warm, wet winter left deep soil moisture that may slow wildfire spread during the upcoming fire season. They advise residents to clear brush and prepare yards, noting that fire risk depends on early summer weather.  KPAX
  • Potomac got a 2,330-acre conservation easement project finalized last week after 20 years of planning. The Case Ranch project, funded by federal, state, private & county sources including US Agriculture and Montana Fish and Wildlife, preserves habitat for migrating wildlife and ensures public access.  KPAX
  • The 183-acre Lazy KD Ranch in Darby is secured in a conservation easement as part of 4,000 protected acres in the Darby-Como Wildlife Corridor to safeguard farmland, water resources, and local heritage, with support from local land trusts and an open lands bond program (preserving historic land for future generations).  KPAX

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks is asking for public comments on trail choices at Fish Creek State Park and Wildlife Management Area during a month-long review ending April 17 — suggestions from hikers, bikers, horsemen and motorized vehicle users will help shape future plans that balance recreation with wildlife protection.  Missoula Current
  • Montana residents and public lands advocates are voicing concerns as the Forest Service quietly moves ahead with plans (involving nearly one-quarter of federal forest lands) to scale back protections, a change that could affect local forest management in coming months.  Missoulian
  • NorthWestern Energy signed agreements with three data center developers last year and provided redacted documents to the PSC, prompting Climate Smart Missoula and other groups to file a motion last week asking regulators to release the deals so customers do not face higher power costs.  Montana Public Radio

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Missoula's housing market is finding a new normal after rapid pandemic growth; lower priced homes face strong competition while higher end properties take longer to sell as new inventory slowly improves.  MontanaRightNow
