BUSINESS NEWS

  • The Downtown Missoula Partnership unveiled a new unified logo created with Bonfire Brands to simplify branding for its Downtown Association, Business Improvement District and Foundation. Kristen Sackett said the design, featuring a river and bridge to show community connection, will appear at events such as Out to Lunch, Downtown Tonight and the Garden City Brewfest—helping to clear up confusion among local businesses.  MontanaRightNow

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Sen. Windy Boy sponsored a bill that would require Montana public schools to report how they spend Indian Education for All funds—150 of 403 districts had not reported properly—to improve accountability. The House Education Committee recently considered the measure, and tribal leaders said it would let tribes guide the program.  Missoula Current
  • Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks said that anyone born after Jan. 1, 1985 who wants to hunt must complete a hunter education course and may choose an in-person or online option.  KPAX

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Nine Montanans filed a suit on March 22 to stop an expanded spring black bear hunt set to start April 15 in northwest Montana (they say Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks broke open meeting laws by approving a secret rule change that removed limits on killing female bears). They claim the decision was made (on December 19) without proper public notice.  Missoula Current

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Missoula’s Public Works Department said water main repair projects will run this summer and into the fall to replace old pipes across the city—work that may cause traffic detours. A project on the water main at Dickens and McCormick will begin Monday—affecting Toole Street for about three weeks as crews upgrade leaking pipes.  Newstalk KGVO
  • Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks finalized its updated 2025 Wolf Management Plan—after more than 25 years of public input—addressing changes since wolves were reintroduced to the Northern Rockies. The plan shifts from counting breeding pairs to targeting 450 wolves and revises conflict management with ranchers to reflect current science.  Newstalk KGVO
  • State lawmakers held a Tuesday hearing on a bill that would provide training in Indian law, federal Indian policy, and tribal legal rights—aimed at reducing confusion and avoiding costly lawsuits—and the Senate approved the measure before it goes to the House State Administration Committee for review.  Montana Public Radio

HEALTH NEWS

  • The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services canceled more than $11 billion in COVID-era grants, cutting funds for addiction, mental health and other programs in Montana. Yellowstone County Public Health lost $180,000—and state officials are reviewing 10 grant cuts on the DOGE website—to determine the full impact.  Montana Public Radio
