COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Montana Food Bank Network will expand its SNAP assistance program to help more residents with new work reporting requirements. The service will broaden support after assisting 622 locals last year (nearly 80,000 benefited in 2025) to ensure eligible neighbors continue receiving benefits.  KPAX

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Project partners in Seeley Lake are building a 30-mile trail system to boost tourism and help recovery after Pyramid Mountain Lumber closed. They received $250,000 from Missoula County, began phase one last fall, and expect to finish advanced trails and wayfinding by 2029 (cost $1.2 million).  Missoula Current
  • GasBuddy head Patrick De Haan said Montana gas prices rose 10.8 cents per gallon in the last week, with some Missoula stations charging up to $3.79 as prices reached $3.68 today. Prices are 91.4 cents higher than a month ago & could increase further amid global supply concerns.  Newstalk KGVO

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The University of Montana will invite a finalist for its open president position next week on campus. Commissioner Clayton Christian said the candidate’s name and visit schedule will be released soon.  MontanaRightNow
  • Seventh-grade students at Hellgate Elementary have qualified for the international Canada Cup robotics competition and are fundraising for their trip (the Mechanical Masters have worked together since fourth grade), so they will soon represent Montana on a global stage.  KPAX

  • Zero Waste Action Month launched in Missoula to help residents reduce waste, spearheaded by nonprofit Home ReSource with city support for its climate strategy. The initiative will feature multiple workshops (planter building and composting) throughout April.  MontanaRightNow

  • Missoula was named Montana's healthiest city in a new WalletHub study, ranking 41st nationwide. The study praised the city's top 10 health care performance + noted its lower ranking in fitness.  Newstalk KGVO
