- ➤ A local group in Missoula is restoring Engine 1356 to return it to its former glory—contractor Andrew Skibo installed a Lexan headlight cover and number plates today to protect the historic train from the weather. - ➤ Humanities Montana’s $1 million grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities ended on April 2 because the federal government shifted funds to match the President’s agenda, leaving the nonprofit with few dollars for arts and civics programs. - ➤ The Montana House approved a preliminary version of House Bill 2 for a two-year budget at $16.6 billion after nearly eight hours of debate, and the draft is $15 million below its starting point—more than $7 billion is allocated to health and human services while public education gets 21%. - ➤ Montana lawmakers face a revenue deadline today as they work through several property and income tax relief bills. The Senate revived SB 203—which raises the income threshold—and SB 546 with a new tax credit while the House considers HB 337 and HB 528, though Governor Gianforte criticized his dropped proposals.
