COMMUNITY NEWS

  • This past weekend, many people gathered on the Courthouse lawn for Missoula’s Hands Off protest as part of a national movement that brought voices on local and national issues—organizers said the event featured speeches, music, and chants. Heavy traffic made parking hard—cars lined the streets while protesters shared their views and noted that Bernie Sanders will visit later this month.  Newstalk KGVO

  • Missoula police are seeking help to locate 21-year-old Texas man Gabriel Bernal who was last seen in Missoula on March 14 - anyone with information should call the department at 406-552-6300.  KPAX

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Today, the Montana Senate is reviewing HB 2, a state budget bill passed by the House with a 58-41 vote that outlines more than $16 billion in spending over the next two years. Senate lawmakers will debate the bill on Friday — any amendments will need the House’s approval by April 23 to complete the budget process.  KPAX
  • City Council approved a rezone and annexation request for a parcel on California Street and River Road east of Russell Street to allow mixed-use development with taller buildings up to 65 feet—helping preserve greenspace along the Clark Fork River. The decision may pave the way for around 235 housing units near Silver Park and the Old Sawmill District—opening options for more dense development.  Missoula Current
  • Missoula City Council approved an amended phasing plan for the Remington Flats subdivision (approved in 2021), swapping phases five and six to improve road connectivity and emergency access. The seven-phase project will add 152 new homes (construction to complete in 2034) in the Sxwtpqyen area near Mullan Road and George Elmer Drive.  Missoula Current
  • On April 7, Rep. Ed Stafman presented a bill to extend continuous eligibility for two years for children under six in the Healthy Montana Kids program—aiming to close coverage gaps that left 15% of kids losing insurance after COVID redetermination. The House advanced the bill on a 57—43 vote and it awaits a final vote before moving to the Senate.  Missoula Current
