EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ University of Montana was named the national no. 1 Military Friendly college by a ranking organization that surveyed over 8,800 schools and gathered input from student veterans — the honor reflects the university’s strong support for nearly 1,000 military-affiliated students and its commitment to inclusive practices across campus. - ➤ The Farmer's Almanac released last frost dates for Montana with Missoula on May 10 and Billings on May 4. The almanac used data (from the National Weather Service and local farmers) to help gardeners plan their planting as a warmer spring is expected. Newstalk KGVO

- ➤ Montana residents must get a Real ID by May 7 using one certified form of identification such as a birth certificate, US passport or Permanent Resident Card along with two documents that show residency—like a utility bill or school transcript. - ➤ The House gave preliminary approval on Friday to a bill defining sex as binary in Montana law (Senate Bill 437) after lawmakers gave emotional testimony. It passed a Senate vote of 31-18 and a second reading in the House with a vote of 56-44 and will have a final vote before it goes to the governor (awaiting final action). Missoula Current
- ➤ Montana libraries are threatened after the Department of Government Efficiency closed the Institute of Museum and Library Sciences on March 31—an action that may cut a key funding source for 123 libraries statewide. - ➤ Crews at MDT have repaired 37 bridges as part of the Bitterroot Bridges Project and are now beginning work on the final bridge over the Bitterroot River—near Hamilton—which may cause minor delays.
