CULTURE NEWS

  • UM's Kyiyo Powwow, organized by the Native American Student Association since 1968, will be held Friday and Saturday, April 17-18 at the Adams Center at the University. Admission is $5 on Friday and $10 on Saturday with free entry for children 6 and under and seniors.  Newstalk KGVO
  • Montana sky watchers can view rare Comet C/2023 A3 (PANNSTARS) at peak around Sunday, April if skies are clear; the Lyrid meteor shower will intensify days later in dark areas, offering a rare celestial show.  Newstalk KGVO

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Missoula County Public Schools is asking voters to approve two levies—one for elementary and one for high schools—to support education, mental health and social work services; ballots will be mailed on Thursday, April 16 with results expected in May.  KPAX
  • Montana Regents approved Shinn as UM president and will send him his contract for signature (the timeline for completion remains unclear).  Missoulian

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Montana is reviewing proposals for new data centers in Butte and Yellowstone County that could use millions of gallons of water and boost energy needs. Health professionals say reliance on fossil fuels may worsen air pollution & strain local resources.  Missoula Current
  • Conservation groups and over 50 community members challenged Missoula County's $250,000 support for a federal-land trail project at Seeley Lake last week, citing environmental and safety concerns for grizzly-habitat.   • On Monday, city and county leaders said a data center proposal by Krambu for the former Bonner mill site raised concerns over energy, water + land use and will go before the county land use board.  KPAX

  • Montana Grizzlies have secured the commitment of Jalen Brown (an NCAA Division II first-team All-American with over 1,000 career points) as he prepares to join the team next season.  Missoulian
  • Montana Grizzlies quarterback Keali'i Ah Yat finished his season (4,000 yards, 33 TDs) and is ranked 7th in the 2026 FCS quarterback rankings. Fans in Missoula are debating if his rating truly reflects his strong play.  Newstalk KGVO
