COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The ZEST event hosted by ZACC raised over $92K to support local arts programs—$17,778 went to artists and $19,492 to small businesses. The funds will back year-round programming, including free afterschool art and music education for rural and Indigenous communities—strengthening Missoula’s creative network.  MontanaRightNow
  • The 2025 Western Montana Corgi Derby will be held on May 3 at Missoula Dornblaser Track—registration costs $10 per family with admission at $5 per person or $10 for groups. The Missoula Valley Corgis organization asks owners not to bring non-competing pets—organizers also plan a costume parade and raffles.  Newstalk KGVO

  • Missoula’s Tres Bonne restaurant has rebranded as Cafe Mimosa and now offers a French-themed menu with breakfast and lunch options at its Front and Higgins location. The change appears recent—new signage and an updated website now list hours of Wednesday through Sunday from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., even though the voicemail still uses the old name.  Newstalk KGVO

CRIME NEWS

  • At 10:37 a.m. on April 12, a Walmart Asset Protection Investigator called 911 after two males damaged property and assaulted an employee at the Mullan Rd store — police later arrested 24-year-old Ashonte Hoyt for felony robbery, criminal mischief, criminal endangerment, and aggravated DUI.  Newstalk KGVO

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Missoula County signed an agreement with the Museum of Life and Sciences to launch a one-day heat monitoring campaign over 100 square miles later this year—an effort backed by a $10,000 stipend for volunteer incentives, food and water. County officials will work with NOAA and local stakeholders to choose important study sites across the region.  KPAX
  • On April 16th, the Adams Center hosted the Fighting Oligarchy Tour featuring U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders and Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. The venue reached capacity with 7,600 inside + 1,500 waiting outside, and the speakers stepped on a makeshift stage + addressed the overflow crowd.  KPAX
  • Yesterday, the Land Use & Planning Committee approved a proposal to amend a 2019 development agreement for a parcel off Mullan Road that would allow a 172-unit senior community with a cap of 40 feet on building height & include a $178,000 payment into the Affordable Housing Trust Fund. If approved by the City Council in the coming weeks, developers plan to break ground this summer and complete the project 16 to 18 months after construction.  Missoula Current
  • A Montana bill would let first responders get PTSD treatment under workers’ compensation if it passes. Sen. Cora Neumann and supporters claim it could cut suicide risks while opponents worry about extra taxpayer costs—she plans to adjust the bill to address these concerns.  Missoula Current
  • Rep. Kortum introduced House Bill 311 that requires property managers with four or more units to refund application fees to renters who are not selected. The Legislature passed the bill with bipartisan support on Tuesday and it now heads to Gov. Gianforte for his signature.  Missoula Current
