- ➤ The growth of free preschool programs in Missoula has led to fewer enrollments among four year olds at centers like the Missoula Family YMCA and Fort Courage—providers that face high costs for caring for younger children now struggle to balance their budgets. - ➤ On Wednesday morning, the Senate Taxation Committee moved several House property tax bills to the Senate floor, including HB 231 and HB 155. - ➤ The city approved a plan to fix the West Broadway intersection at Toole Avenue and California Street and asked WGM Group to check the road and plan safer ways for pedestrians and drivers. The Student and Teacher Advancement for Results and Success Act requires districts to pay at least 62% of 2025's average teacher pay to access yearly funds up to about $350,000—Sen. - ➤ Legislators amended key property tax reform bills Wednesday at the Montana Legislature to lower taxes for primary homes, long-term rentals and commercial businesses while raising taxes on short-term rentals. The changes include an immediate rate reduction, up to $400 in rebates, & state funding for Billings and Sunburst — lawmakers and local officials expressed concerns over the impact on city charters and potential budget shortfalls. - ➤ Ward 6 Council member Kristen Jordan announced her run for re-election today—she has worked to block a harmful rezone at Reserve and 9th, set up a noise reporting tool with local partners, and help relocate the Johnson Street Shelter to support affordable housing.
