COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Watson Children's Shelter will host its first Community Baby Shower on April 22 at 4:30 p.m. at the Food Bank and Community Center to support expecting families and families with babies through donations of formula, clothes, and diapers—an effort under its Healthy Foundations program to help ease essential costs.  MontanaRightNow

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Gizem Nance of Eagles Acres Family Farm in St. Ignatius said a recent change by the U.S. Postal Service caused chick deliveries to be delayed, leading to hundreds of chicks dying and extra costs for her business. She now must drive 420 miles round-trip when the mail takes five days to reach her—other Montana poultry farmers report similar losses.  Missoulian

CRIME NEWS

  • On April 15, a Missoula officer responded to a call after a tenant reported a suspicious black Nissan pickup parked in a back lot with a broken window and later detained Rodney Sherman—who said he had brought the truck on a dolly after a dolly accident—after finding plastic baggies with methamphetamine and a pill bottle of Adderall, leading to his arrest on two felony drug counts with bond set at $10,000.  Newstalk KGVO

CULTURE NEWS

  • St. Francis Xavier Parish has preserved its 130-year legacy — by restoring its original stained glass windows and murals — and features a majestic organ, original pews, and a massive bronze bell — symbols of its rich history. Visitors continue to admire the art, music, and architecture that make the sanctuary a testament to the parish's enduring charm.  KPAX

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The city expanded its Bear Buffer Zone so more residents will soon need to use bear-resistant trash cans to reduce conflicts with bears. A bear biologist from Montana Fish—Wildlife and Parks said the updated rules have already helped lower human—bear conflicts.  Missoulian

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Missoula Redevelopment Agency approved $212,000 for a detailed structural analysis on Ogren Park at Allegiance Field plus $108,000 for HVAC repairs and $85,000 for concrete fixes. • The MRA board approved roughly $212,000 from Urban Renewal District II to fund a deep structural analysis and repairs on the HVAC system and shifting concrete at Ogren Park at Allegiance Field. City officials said the work — which addresses the facility’s aging base built on wood waste — will help secure the stadium for future events.  Missoula Current
  • The city's mayor and the Missoula Redevelopment Agency have proposed using the remaining ($44,000) from a temporary bathroom project at the Johnson Street Shelter to fund a housing sprint as shelter operations wind down over the next few months.
