EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ On May 8th, Governor Gianforte signed the STARS Act (Student and Teacher Advancement for Results and Success Act) to invest $100 million in raising starting teacher pay for new educators in Montana. ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ More than 20 Montana biologists and wildlife advocates have submitted a four‐page comment to oppose a proposed rule change by federal agencies (including the Flathead-Lolo-Bitterroot Citizen Task Force) that would remove habitat modification from the harm definition in the Endangered Species Act. The agencies are accepting public comments until May 19, and the coalition warned that ending the current consultation process (a key part of how projects protect species) could lead to increased habitat loss from logging and mining in the area. GOVERNMENT NEWS

The candidates are campaigning on issues such as housing affordability, homelessness, and responsible budgeting as incumbents step aside — offering fresh perspectives for local government. Missoulian
- ➤ Montana Public Interest Research Group filed a lawsuit on Tuesday against the state and the secretary of state to challenge House Bill 413, which they say may bar college students from voting in places like Missoula if they attend the University of Montana.
