Here's your local news at a glance for Thursday, the 15th of May.
Good morning, Missoula.
Broadway veterans and investors plan to open a 47-acre film and television campus on the former Rosenberg property in Missoula with a ribbon cutting planned later this week.
The new campus will include five premium soundstages, post-production suites, commercial workshops, and an Americana backlot that is expected to create 435 jobs for veterans, Native Americans and displaced workers.
The Missoula Elections Office approved a new $49,000 contract with Election Systems & Software on Tuesday to design its own ballots and save about $10,000 a year.
The office will begin training on the new software this summer — a move to speed up ballot setup and tabulator configuration.
Gov. Greg Gianforte signed bills that will let homeowners see clear wildfire risk scores from insurers and change state fire rules before wildfire season begins.
Lawmakers say the measures—designed to ease sudden insurance cancellations and improve fire response—aim to hold insurers and agencies accountable.
Governor Gianforte holds the power to sign or veto hundreds of bills passed by the Montana Legislature, which ended its session two weeks ago; he already vetoed six bills that he said were too costly.
Lawmakers passed 816 bills in all, and ideas like HB 610 and SB 167 are now waiting for his decision within ten days—details that could change the state’s spending picture.
