ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Biologist Wayne Kasworm said DNA tests show that grizzly bears in the Cabinet-Yaak area are mixing genes with one male traveling and siring cubs — a sign that gene flow is occurring. He noted that human-caused deaths have hurt the bear population and agencies plan to move a young female bear there this summer — although funding cuts may slow recovery measures. KPAX
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Missoula Fire Department is evaluating two sites for its new Station 6—one near Reserve Street, which had 2,391 calls in 2023, and one in the growing airport area—in order to improve response times and reduce reliance on the rural station. City council members have raised concerns about the department’s ability to keep up with increasing demand as the city expands. MontanaRightNow
