CRIME NEWS

  • On May 13, 2025, a police officer responded at the Mountain Line Transfer Center when 37-year-old Whitney Phillips—permanently banned earlier—was reported screaming before resisting arrest by kicking an officer and throwing her cell phone, and she now faces charges for felony assault on a peace officer, criminal trespass, disorderly conduct, and resisting arrest with a $10,000 bond.  Newstalk KGVO

  • Brady Stone, owner of BS Fabrication in Ovando, has created electrified steel bear mats—an alternative to electric fence gates—that help ranchers reduce grizzly conflicts in the Blackfoot valley. He produced about 50 to 60 mats in the past five years as grizzlies reclaimed parts of their historic range, prompting local efforts to manage encounters between people and bears.  Missoulian

  • The Missoula City Council approved a $477,000 bid to install a traffic signal at the Orange Street and Cregg Lane intersection—Jag Construction will begin work at the end of this month with plans to complete the project by Sept. 6, funded by impact fees and Old Sawmill District contributions.  KPAX
  • Travelers planning a hotel stay in Missoula will pay a $4 fee starting July 1 after the city council approved the increase with an 8-1 vote to fund tourism projects.   • Community Medical Center launched a donor milk program this week to provide pasteurized donor milk for premature infants in the NICU and is one of only two donor locations in Montana—partnering with Northwest Mothers Milk Bank to ensure safety with carefully screened donors.  MontanaRightNow

  • Missoula firefighters are competing in the Firefighter Challenge Championship Series at the West Regional Classic in Salt Lake City, where teams run up stairs, drag heavy hoses and dummies and wear 50 pounds of gear to test their skills. Quinlan Roe of the Missoula Fire Department said he plans to beat his father's record as more firefighters join the event—making it a key test of strength and teamwork.  KPAX
