  • Missoula's Free Cycles began raising $800,000 to pay off its mortgage. A bridge in Libby was dedicated on Sunday in honor of fallen soldier Arthur Rambo—while a new skate park opened in Pablo on Saturday, offering free skateboards and helmets to local youth.  KPAX
  • Yesterday, Memorial Day, Missoulians honored the fallen at the Western Montana State Veterans Cemetery with parachuters and the historic World War II plane Miss Montana joining in tribute. Many veterans, active duty members and families gathered +including retired Air Force Colonel Ryan Torkelson and his wife Susan+ as they remembered those who gave their lives in service.  KPAX

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Tipped workers in Montana have been paying state taxes on tips since last year as a 2021 law linked state rules to federal tax policy. Congress may soon approve a bill to exempt tips from tax — a change that would return the system to its pre-2024 rules and impact state revenue.  Missoula Current
  • Federal leaders are considering combining wildfire response duties into a single Federal Wildland Fire Service — an effort to cut red tape and boost support for firefighters. Montana U.S. Sen. Tim Sheehy and other lawmakers plan to form a unified agency — one that will work year-round to protect communities during wildfire season.  KPAX
  • Today, construction begins at the Downtown Transfer Center on Passenger Island as workers start electrical and structural upgrades that will last about two months and may extend past July.
