BUSINESS NEWS

  • Two mental health nonprofits have merged into AWARE—combining their mental health, disability, and early intervention support across 56 counties—and will complete the merger in the coming months. Missoula Under Construction will be held on Saturday, June 7, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Missoula County Fairgrounds to raise funds for childhood nutrition programs for the Food Bank and Community Center.  Missoulian

CRIME NEWS

  • On May 26, 2025, UM Police responded to a call about a gunshot and found 22—year—old Camden Bullchild breaking windows at a UM-owned apartment on Laurin Court with a golf club and a knife; he admitted his anger caused the damage, and officers arrested him for felony criminal mischief with damage estimated at $5,000—$10,000.  Newstalk KGVO

  • Gov. Gianforte vetoed two bills this month that would have expanded public access to government records — one bill would have made his own records open to review. Lawmakers said the public needs a clear view of state work, while the governor said privacy is needed for effective government.  Montana Public Radio
  • After a decade of persistent effort by advocates, Montana officially recognized Indigenous Peoples Day as a holiday — a milestone marking years of work to honor indigenous heritage.  Missoulian
  • Twelve Native American lawmakers formed the Montana American Indian Caucus this session and helped pass key bills that change the Indian Child Welfare Act and establish Indigenous Peoples Day along with reforms in child care, housing, education, and health care.
