CRIME NEWS

  • A new national study from Murphy & Prachthauser Attorneys at Law found Montana ranked fifth for violent crimes near hotels and third for property crimes during 2016-2025 (a reflection of smaller states' data) which may lead travelers to double-check lodging security as tourism rises for the nation’s 250th birthday.  Newstalk KGVO

  • Salish Kootenai College TRIO students and staff fear losing federal support that has provided tutoring, advising, and financial aid to over a third of students.   • Candidate Sam Forstag—former smokejumper and union member—held a campaign rally at The Wilma Theater in downtown Missoula on Thursday night, May 28; Rep. Ocasio-Cortez joined him to address rising housing costs and limited health care ahead of the primary election on Tuesday, June 2.  Montana Public Radio
  • Missoula County will hold a public hearing on feral horses in the upper Miller Creek area to address safety concerns as horses weighing up to 1,500 lbs can create roadway hazards. The session will provide community members an opportunity to learn about proposed measures.  Missoulian
  • Candidate Sam Forstag held a rally to stress affordable living with housing, healthcare, and retirement support while Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez endorsed his approach; he will face a primary on June 2 against several rivals, challenging corporate influence on government.  Missoula Current

  • Intermountain Health said service cuts in Montana are coming because of high costs, dwindling profit margins and unpredictability. The group remains committed to quality care while warning that similar financial strains may soon affect other areas.  Missoulian

  • The Missoula Sentinel punched its ticket to the state championship in their first state appearance during the ongoing final rounds of the Class AA baseball tournament in Butte.  Missoulian
  • Gallatin's McCarty earned his fourth consecutive state tennis singles title + Hellgate girls secured their third win in four years at the Class AA tournament held Friday in Kalispell. The victories highlight a strong performance by our local tennis players.  Missoulian
  • Montana pole vaulter Kevin Swindler matched his school record on Thursday while clearing 17 feet 7 1/4 inches in the rain to earn a berth in the NCAA Championship Meet. He will now compete in Eugene.  Missoulian
  • Entering 2026 with 3,677 career rushing yards, Eli Gillman is expected to break Montana's all-time record if he stays healthy (he needs 393 yards to pass Yohance Humphrey and four touchdowns to surpass Lex Hilliard) following his strong 2025 season.  Newstalk KGVO
