ECONOMY NEWS

  • A survey by the University of Montana Institute for Tourism and Recreation Research found that 68% of Montanans said tourism benefits outweighed its negative impacts, yet nearly half reported their communities felt crowded during the summer travel season — especially in regions like Yellowstone and Glacier Country. ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks officials say that drought and rising water temperatures are already matching mid-July levels and may force hoot-owl fishing restrictions on several rivers soon. Officials warned that anglers could face a 2 p.m. cut-off on affected rivers — a measure to protect cold-water fish if flows remain low.  Missoulian
