ECONOMY NEWS

  • Gas prices in Montana jumped 5.2¢ per gallon over the past week to average $3.23 on Monday—prices are now 5.6¢ higher than a month ago and 14.1¢ lower than a year ago.  KPAX

EDUCATION NEWS

  • SPARK! Arts held its Summer Ignite Conference June 19—20 at the University of Montana School of Education, offering free professional development in arts-integrated teaching for elementary and middle school educators as part of the Kennedy Center’s Any Given Child initiative and celebrating its 10th anniversary. Local teaching artist Jesse Blumenthal led a live iron pouring demonstration with 13 iron artists from five states, casting 27 molds and 35 keep‑sake iron tiles to mark the event.  KPAX

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Missoula County is reviewing a plan to build six- and eight-plex apartments off Highway 93 near the Wye, an area set for change in the coming years. The proposal by Miramonte Manley Lofts LLC and IMEG has most permits approved+ a traffic study indicates future developments may lead to a new signal at the intersection with an estimated cost of $1.8 million.  Missoula Current
  • Missoula County is looking at an urban-style housing project near the Wye on Highway 93 and Waldo Road—proposed by Miramonte Manley Lofts LLC—that would add six- and eight-plex apartments to a site now zoned for commercial use. County planners said the project, if approved, may join other developments in the Wye area and later need a new traffic signal costing about $1.8 million.  Missoula Current

  • Jennifer Lichter of Missoula won the Broken Arrow 46K women’s race Saturday at Palisades Tahoe Village near Olympic Valley, California—she set a course record by finishing in 4 hours, 42 minutes, 32 seconds and earned a spot on Team USATF Short Trail. Over 500 runners started the race, but 163 finished before snow and lightning forced the event to be paused.  Missoulian
