Good morning, Missoula. Here's your local news at a glance for Wednesday, the 25th of June.

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Gas prices in Montana have risen in 21 of the past 25 weeks with today’s average at $3.23 per gallon and many Missoula stations charging around $3.31 per gallon. Patrick De Haan of GasBuddy says recent global events including U.S. attacks on Iran will likely push prices higher—motorists should check for updates.  Newstalk KGVO

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Downtown Missoula will soon see a new private school when Clark Fork Prep opens late this summer in the old Missoula Library building to offer more high school options to local families. The school charges tuition at $16,500 and follows the local public school schedule with sports options — it needs six students enrolled to begin classes and will use a unique place-based education model.  MontanaRightNow

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • On June 17, Alliance for the Wild Rockies and Save the Bull Trout filed a lawsuit against the National Park Service to stop water diversions at Grant-Kohrs Ranch that are dewatering the Upper Clark Fork River and threatening bull trout habitat. The suit claims reduced hay production will leave enough water in the river for the threatened fish to spawn and survive during low-flow conditions—especially in drought years.  Missoula Current

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Missoula’s Public Works and Mobility Department will begin installing a roundabout and widened sidewalks at the Scott and Phillips intersection on July 7 as part of a safety project. The work will require closing the Scott Street Bridge and the intersection and is set to finish before school starts on August 22—temporary routes have been arranged for traffic and pedestrians.  Newstalk KGVO
  • On Monday, Missoula City Council unanimously voted to oppose a federal plan to sell 3.3 million acres of public lands — over 5,000 square miles that bolster the state’s $3.4 billion outdoor recreation economy. Council members warned that this move threatens Montana’s natural legacy and urged federal leaders to maintain current land stewardship as the Senate vote nears.  Missoula Current

HEALTH NEWS

  • Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes reported that testing found PCBs, dioxins, and furans in fish from portions of the Clark Fork and Bitterroot rivers — making them unsafe for eating. The advisory covers fish caught from the lower Clark Fork between the Bitterroot near Missoula and the Flathead near Paradise — and it remains in effect until further notice.  KPAX
