CRIME NEWS

  • Former Montana teacher Jerome Brian Romero is missing after he was charged with failing to register as a violent offender, and county officials issued a warrant when he did not appear in court, with bail set at $50,000.  Montana Public Radio
  • Shortly before 8:30 a.m. on July 4, a Missoula officer responded to a stabbing at the Poverello Center when John Doe was injured while trying to help a woman—Daniel Osborne admitted stabbing Doe with a pen and was arrested on a felony assault with a weapon charge with a $10,000 bond—while medical staff transported Doe to the hospital.  Newstalk KGVO
  • Officers responded at 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday to a Missoula home on South 5th Street East, where they found a 48-year-old man dead and took his body to the Montana State Crime Lab as detectives investigate a suspicious death.  KPAX

  • The Bear Creek Fire burned 19 acres 11 miles west of Lolo and is now 100% contained as cleanup work continues for several days. The blaze was first detected on July 3 in heavy timber near U.S. Highway 12 — officials report that it did not spread further.  KPAX

  • The Missoula County Office of Emergency Management urged residents to sign up for Smart911 alerts to receive timely wildfire evacuation updates as the season approaches—using the website or app ensures alerts reach the correct address.
