CRIME NEWS

  • Two Mexican men were sentenced in Great Falls for having fake immigration papers—one got 120 days from time served and will be deported while the other was caught during a DUI stop in Fairview with a document linking him to a revoked status—as part of a crackdown that has sent 52 cases to court since the start of the year, U.S. Attorney Kurt Alme said.  Newstalk KGVO
  • On July 3, 2025, a Missoula police officer patrolling near 501 N. California Street discovered an illegal camp within 50 feet of the Clark Fork River at about 12:20 p.m. and, after finding a used glass pipe, a new pipe, and a baggie with a substance that tested positive for meth in 34-year-old Brandon Kelly’s (with an active probation warrant) bag, arrested him on felony charges with a $10,000 bond.  Newstalk KGVO

  • The inaugural Zootown Music Festival at the Missoula Fairgrounds drew about 30,000 people on July 4 and 5, boosting local businesses. Co-founder Scott Osburn said the event had a strong impact—he announced the festival will return each summer from 2026 through 2029.  MontanaRightNow

  • Today, Silver Lake will release 32 cubic feet per second of water into Warm Springs Creek to boost upper Clark Fork River flows and protect fish during drought conditions. The agreement, funded by the Upper Clark Fork River Basin Restoration Fund, will continue until Aug. 27—helping maintain cooler water temperatures in the streams.  KPAX

  • Leaders with Montana Food Bank Network say that planned federal SNAP cuts in the One Big Bill may reduce benefits for up to 30,000 Montanans and leave food banks unable to meet rising needs; local pantries have seen an 11% increase in visits due to higher living costs — expanded work requirements could worsen food insecurity if the cuts take effect.  Missoula Current
  • Christopher Martinez, an ICE detainee, appeared in Missoula court on July 10 to argue that his Fourth Amendment rights were violated during a traffic stop for expired plates—he claims that protestors carrying an 'Abolish ICE' banner and officials identifying his ethnicity amounted to racial profiling. Judge Dana L. Christensen denied his request to wear civilian clothing and maintained that ICE and local law enforcement acted legally.  MontanaRightNow
