CULTURE NEWS

This project preserves images of schools, churches, and other local scenes for future generations.  Missoula Current

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • On July 14, fire officials in Missoula County raised the fire danger from moderate to HIGH as dry conditions and rising temperatures increased the risk of wildfires. • Missoula Parks and Recreation will begin installing fencing along the Milwaukee Trail Monday as part of the Clark Fork River Restoration and Access Project—reducing lane widths while keeping the trail open and maintaining access to Toole Park. GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Lawmakers ended the session by passing a new property tax system that makes it harder for homeowners to calculate their taxes and uses more taxpayer money to hire state workers—putting urban and second-home owners on track for higher bills. A May poll shows many Montanans believe legislators did not handle tax relief and housing affordability well.  Missoula Current
  • Missoula Parks and Recreation is working to complete the Clark Fork River Recreation and Access Project—aimed at replacing 93 unstable river access points along a mile of river and 630 feet of eroded bank with sustainable alternatives. Earlier work, such as the new Riverfront Terrace at Caras Park—has set the stage for safer river access for more than 18,000 seasonal users.  Newstalk KGVO
  • Montana Attorney General Austin Knudsen has filed a motion for the state to intervene in a federal climate lawsuit filed in May that alleges fossil fuel policies are harming Montana’s economy and environment. The state group — including 18 other Attorneys General and Guam — plans to file a motion to dismiss the case by Aug. 4 with a hearing set in Missoula for September 16th and 17th before Judge Dana Christiansen.  Missoula Current
