COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Jill Bonny, executive director of the Poverello Center, said that when the Johnson Street Shelter closes at the end of August it will remove over 170 beds and force more people to seek help at its West Broadway location this fall. The center already houses about 110 people out of a 150-bed capacity—raising concerns that more individuals will be left unsheltered as bad weather approaches.  Missoulian

CRIME NEWS

  • Missoula Police responded on July 12 at 9:30 p.m. to a disturbance on W Kent Ave when 18-year-old Dallas Heinrich reportedly brandished what appeared to be a black handgun—multiple witnesses saw him draw the weapon and he was later arrested on felony assault with a weapon and tampering with evidence charges with a bond set at $25,000.  Newstalk KGVO
  • A Missoula man was sentenced Monday to five years in prison—he faced charges for car theft, DUI and a gun threat at Winco—and will serve 10 years of probation for offenses committed over the past year.  Missoulian

  • Missoula crews will chip seal city streets from July 21 to August 7—traffic lanes will be adjusted and drivers are urged to take caution as loose rock chips could remain for up to three weeks.  KPAX
  • Missoula City Council passed a resolution on Monday night opposing price-fixing algorithm software and other anti-competitive rental practices—council members stated the measure, which has no legal force, is meant to guide landlords towards fairer rental pricing amid rising costs.  Missoula Current
