EDUCATION NEWS

  • Missoula County Public Schools trustees approved using $1 million from the district’s rainy day fund on Tuesday night to cover frozen federal funds needed for salaries that saved jobs for three Willard High teachers, two elementary school staff, an ESL tutor, and an instructional coach — a move Superintendent Micah Hill said was vital for keeping programming consistent. The district will reimburse these funds if federal dollars are unfrozen — with more budget decisions to come in future meetings.  Missoulian

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Missoula City Council candidates met at forums on July 2 and July 9 to discuss the city's housing shortage as high home prices and low rental vacancies challenge residents. They offered different solutions—some calling for streamlined development rules and more funding for affordable housing while others stressed lowering property taxes—with a primary set for Sept. 9 and a general election on Nov. 4.  Missoulian
  • Missoula City Council reviewed plans to turn Brooks Street into a rapid-transit bus corridor (the design is at 15% and includes a side-running route with 11 stops) that aims to reduce traffic and boost pedestrian safety in Midtown.
