- ➤ Missoula police recovered a stolen Santa Cruz mountain bike with yellow lettering from a tent at Clark Fork Natural Park on July 16 after John Doe reported it missing from South Higgins and South 3rd Street West early on July 15, and they arrested Steven Neff on felony theft charges—tools stolen in an earlier burglary were also found in his tent. - ➤ On July 16 at 6:30 p.m., a Missoula officer responded to Walmart on Highway 93 S when 48-year-old Michael Schulz—who had been involved in four other shoplifting events—attempted to steal a speaker and two rugs, fleeing before being arrested and now facing felony attempted burglary charges. - ➤ Big Sky Professional Baseball asked the city for $1.6 million to replace Ogren Park’s worn-out grass field that is built on old timber mill waste. The Missoula Redevelopment Agency is now exploring a plan to install artificial turf at a total cost of about $2.1 million and to build a long-term maintenance fund—decisions will be made in the coming weeks as the field may be used by more teams. - ➤ The Montana Legislature overturned Gov. Gianforte's veto on a bill that will pay counties $130 a day for holding inmates until they get mental health care.
