  • Helena casinos donated bar sales to help pay for funeral costs and support Anaconda families after the Owl Bar shooting on August 1—operations manager Mayme Folio said the effort raised about $600 and donations were accepted until early morning.  KPAX

  • The Missoula-based podcast OMFG released a new episode this week discussing the 1993 film Red Rock West starring Nicolas Cage, Dennis Hopper, and Dwight Yoakam—adding to prior episodes that explore Montana films including those by David Lynch and features like The Revenant.   • Home ReSource’s Green Team sorted waste at the Western Montana Fair to make sure compost, recycling and trash reached the right destination. They managed tens of thousands of pounds of waste — compost sent to Missoula Compost and trash to Republic Services — as the fair aimed for a 90 percent diversion goal.  KPAX

  • Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks started a fishing survey on August 6 to ask licensed anglers if they fished in local lakes and streams.
