CRIME NEWS

  • A police officer investigated a case at Motel 6 on East Broadway when the motel owner reported that Michael Carlsen, the grandson of hospital-bound John Doe who fell on July 20, had removed Doe's belongings including his 2023 Ford Explorer after sending a video showing Doe seeming confused about granting a $10,000 transfer—Michael was arrested and faces felony theft and exploitation charges with a $20,000 bond.  Newstalk KGVO

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Stargazers in Montana recorded bright streaks early Wednesday morning at 5:15 a.m.—the light patterns came from space debris burning up during reentry rather than the Perseids meteor shower—and no damage was reported.  KPAX
  • On Monday, conservation groups and local Montanans asked Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks to press charges against Powell County for allowing a contractor to drive an ATV nearly 10 miles down the Blackfoot River—reportedly spraying herbicides near bull trout habitat during low river flows.  Missoula Current
  • On August 13, the Lolo National Forest updated details on wildfires burning in the Missoula District; a 2.7-acre fire near Wall Canyon is being contained with ground and air help — smoke may be seen along I-90 — while a human-caused fire near Nemote is contained and crews will continue mopping up lingering heat today.  KPAX
