Good morning, Missoula. Here's your local news at a glance for Friday, the 15th of August.

CULTURE NEWS

  • Story House — a film facility in the former Roseburg Forest Products building — is being redeveloped over the next 12 to 18 months and has started pre-production on its first film, St. George, which will be shot from late September into October. The project, a heavy eight-figure investment with state support, will create more than 435 local jobs for veterans, First Nations, and displaced workers.  Newstalk KGVO

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Three groups—Upper Missouri Waterkeeper, Alliance for the Wild Rockies, and Save the Bull Trout—filed a lawsuit in Lewis and Clark County court last week against Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks for not enforcing instream water rights as river flows dropped during a multi-year drought, putting fish at risk. The suit claims that FWP’s failure to make water calls violates Montana water law and the public trust, and the groups seek to have the agency suspend its call protocol.  Missoula Current

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • City officials say some Missoula homeowners will pay less city tax even as the rate increases 3.5%—new state laws and a reappraisal have lowered taxable values for many homes. Officials explained that a typical home with a market rise can see its tax bill drop by about 14%—though those with larger jumps may pay more.  KPAX

HEALTH NEWS

  • Healthcare leaders in Montana say new Medicaid work requirements will add a lot of paperwork and may force people to lose coverage when rechecks start in January—this change could cause delays and problems for low-income patients. Providers worry that tougher rules may lead to more hospital bill problems if more patients drop coverage.  Missoula Current

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Today, Mayor Andrea Davis and the Missoula Redevelopment Agency broke ground on a new workforce housing project that will provide affordable options for the next 50 years. Construction is underway and the project will finish in 12 months with a ribbon-cutting scheduled for next year.  MontanaRightNow
