ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Missoula fire crews battled a grass fire near Cohosset Drive by the intersection of S. Russell St.—39th St.—Hillview Way on Monday, as the Missoula Fire Department said the public should avoid the area.  KPAX

CRIME NEWS

  • On August 14, Missoula police arrested Brandy Hull after she broke the glass door at Blue Heron Place—she admitted kicking the door when she got upset about leaving a friend's apartment while drinking and the repair is estimated to exceed $1,500.  Newstalk KGVO

CULTURE NEWS

  • Kitchen Dwellers are headlining a summer tour with Leftover Salmon and The Infamous Stringdusters at the Kettleghouse Amphitheater in Missoula—the bands delivered a mix of bluegrass, country, and folk tunes that excited local fans.  Missoula Current

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Gas prices in Montana have risen 1.8 cents to average $3.23 per gallon today—Missoula stations list prices near $3.24, and prices remain 25.6 cents lower than last year. GasBuddy noted oil stays near $60, so prices are expected to hold until Labor Day.  Newstalk KGVO
  • A new study by the Montana Department of Labor and Industries shows that out of 100,000 Montanans aged 16–54 not working, 10,400 are not looking for a job—most due to school, family care, or health issues. Gov. Gianforte recently signed an executive order to help fill job openings as the state struggles with a tight labor market and 1.6 openings for every unemployed person.  Missoula Current

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Today, the Missoula City Council approved a nearly 34% tax increase for the city's fiscal budget, yet many homeowners will see lower city taxes this year due to state legislative changes that lowered taxable values after reappraisals—one home saw a 21% taxable value drop despite a 27% rise in market value. Council members passed most motions nearly unanimously and will finalize the remaining fiscal resolutions soon.  MontanaRightNow
  • The Missoula City Council approved the 2026 city budget on Monday night, raising property taxes by 3.4% to generate about $2.4 million for supporting city staff wages for police, fire, and road services. City officials expect the new state tax law to lower the median home’s taxes by about $250.  KPAX
