COMMUNITY NEWS

  • United Way of Missoula County and Missoula Chevrolet distributed nearly 1,000 backpacks filled with school supplies to students in Missoula and Mineral County as the school year approaches. CRIME NEWS

  • On August 14 at 6:16 a.m., Missoula Police went to a suite on the 1800 block of South Avenue West after a property owner reported an unauthorized break-in—officers later arrested 41-year-old Gabriel Stephens for obstructing officers and felony burglary after finding a gold door hinge and screws in his pocket.  Newstalk KGVO

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Montana's unemployment rate was 2.8% in July, marking the 10th month the rate stayed below 3% — with Missoula County at 2.6% after losing 909 jobs compared to a year ago. Construction and retail added over 500 jobs each, and Governor Gianforte praised four years of strong job growth.  Missoula Current

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The University of Montana marked 20 years of its adult education program MOLLI that now offers both in-person and online classes for adults and undergrads. Volunteers served ice cream as participants signed up for fall courses—demonstrating growing interest in lifelong learning.  Missoulian

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • A Powell County weed sprayer drove an amphibious ATV in the Blackfoot River during fishing restrictions meant to protect bull trout—an act that upset locals—and was halted by Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks after a local guide filmed the event.  Missoula Current

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The ACLU of Montana said the driver’s license form forces nonbinary residents to choose only male or female and start forcing wrong answers. Judge Shane Vannatta is hearing the appeal that challenges the decision over the form’s limits — the ACLU claims this practice violates equal protection under the state constitution.  Missoula Current
  • The Missoula County Elections Office is mailing more than 47,000 primary ballots to city residents for the September 9th election. The ballots include a mayoral race for all and a city council contest in Wards 2, 3, and 6—voters may drop off their ballots in person on election day.  KPAX
