- ➤ UM Forestry Professor Dr. Peter Kolb said on Thursday's KGVO Talk Back show that Montana’s lumber mills are shrinking as the state’s forest products infrastructure dropped from 46 mills to five and all projects face strict federal reviews — risking the future of the wood industry. - ➤ The fire sparked by lightning burned 221 acres and remained 0% contained on Friday morning six miles southwest of Frenchtown as 80 firefighters built a dozer line near BPA powerlines using water and retardant drops to limit its spread—no evacuations were ordered. KPAX
- ➤ Firefighters battled a wildfire along Interstate 90 between Reserve Street and Orange Street in Missoula on August 22, burning five acres and causing closures of the eastbound lanes and local roads—helicopters dropped water on the blaze. KPAX
