- ➤ In Arlee, three local hairstylists worked with Jocko Valley Baptist Church to give free haircuts to about 50 students on Sunday—helping them start the school year with a fresh look—and provided food and games for the whole family. KPAX
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Missoula woman Rachelle Farnsworth, 21, was charged with felony animal cruelty for neglecting three dogs tied to a tree on the Kim Williams Trail on August 19—animal control took the malnourished dogs and she will appear in court early September. KPAX
- ➤ A Missoula man—Zayden James Woods, 20—is facing felony charges for aggravated sexual assault without consent after an incident at the Red Lion hotel last week; he was arrested following a victim's report and is scheduled to appear in court early September with a bond of $50,000. KPAX
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ K. Ross Toole was a famed historian who taught at the University of Montana and shared his honest view of Montana's past through his lectures and writings. ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Firefighters built a fireline around a new spot fire on the southeast corner of the lightning-sparked Corral Creek Fire—located six miles southwest of Frenchtown—that burned 408 acres and remains 0% contained as of Monday. Officials say the difficult terrain near Albert Creek and unpredictable winds on Tuesday evening will challenge containment efforts. KPAX
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Under a new agreement approved last week, the MRA will pay Parks and Rec $1,000 per tree plus a 2.5% project management fee to store, install, and care for trees for two years—160 trees will be funded with $164,000 in tax increment funds from Urban Renewal Districts II and III. The contract ensures better maintenance than previous projects managed directly by contractors. Missoula Current
- ➤ Lonnie Rash is Missoula's new fire chief after former Gordy Hughes retired in June.
