CRIME NEWS

  • On August 24th, 2025, Missoula police arrested 57-year-old Daniel Garza near Nickel Ante Casino when officers found him trying to board a Jefferson Lines bus and located a methamphetamine pipe and small baggie in his pocket—he now faces felony charges for dangerous drugs and obstructing a peace officer with a bond set at $40,000.  Newstalk KGVO

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Volunteers from across Missoula County drove on August 12 to collect temperature and humidity data with sensors as part of the Heat Watch campaign—a local project involving county government, nonprofits, and community groups to map rising hot spots and guide resilient planning for extreme heat. The collected data will later be used to direct resources and improve infrastructure as the number of hot days increases.  Missoula Current
  • Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks increased the wolf harvest quota from 334 to 458 and raised personal tag limits after a meeting on August 21—aiming for a steeper decline in the wolf population. The draft 2025 Montana State Wildlife Action Plan is open for public comment through September 14 and outlines new steps for conservation actions and habitat protections.  Newstalk KGVO

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Missoula airport will close for a major runway upgrade from 8 a.m. on September 2 until 3 p.m. on September 7 — commercial flights will be canceled and workers will repave the runway while upgrading the electrical systems and updating the terminal and parking lot.  KPAX
  • Andrea Davis, Missoula’s incumbent mayor, is seeking reelection to keep up her work on affordable housing and better public services—she has built trust by using a new tracking system to respond to residents' concerns about cost of living and local services. If reelected, Davis will focus on housing solutions and stronger economic support as the mail-in primary takes place on September 9.  KPAX
  • Missoula's public works department is close to finalizing a plan that will set rules for home EV chargers and create partnerships between the city and businesses to boost electric vehicles. The council will vote on its final adoption on Sept. 8 — some members support the plan while others worry it may bring higher future costs.  Missoulian
