- ➤ Missoula United Way and Tremper’s Shopping Center have teamed up in the Give Real Change campaign to help people secure permanent housing by covering rent deposits, application fees, and travel expenses+ The campaign will run until December 31 and aims to raise up to $10,000 to support those facing homelessness in midtown Missoula. - ➤ On September 3, the Missoula Police Department discovered the body of a 38-year-old local resident in an irrigation waterway near Grant Street and South 6th Street West + officers are gathering evidence and interviewing witnesses to determine the cause of death. Newstalk KGVO
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Authorities warn Missoula residents and others to avoid harmful algae blooms seen at Tongue River Reservoir, Homestake Lake, McGregor Lake, and Holter Lake as low water levels boost the risk of toxins this late summer and early fall. In a separate case, a Thompson Falls man pleaded guilty to fraud for falsifying work hours and now faces 5 years of probation and restitution — GPS data showed his patrol car stayed at home during his reported duty hours. - ➤ Montana Grizzlies athletic director Kent Haslam said the team plans its nonconference schedule with the playoffs in mind—selecting home games to earn needed revenue and prepare the players for tougher contests. The Grizzlies open today at 6 p.m. against D-II Central Washington at Washington-Grizzly Stadium, and future matchups with top rivals remain in planning. Missoulian
- ➤ UM President Seth Bodnar said on UM Minute that fall sports are making the campus lively and helping the community come together—MTN's Mark Martin interviewed him to explain how athletics add value to school life. KPAX
- ➤ Missoula Sentinel won a low scoring football game by shutting out Great Falls CMR 6 to 0 on Sept 4 at MCPS Stadium. The team scored one touchdown — its defense limited CMR to 48 total yards in the first half and forced a late turnover. Missoulian
