CRIME NEWS

  • The Missoula County Sheriff's Office warned residents today of a phone scam using a loved one's number to falsely claim hostage situations and demand money — authorities advise hanging up immediately, calling 911, and checking on their loved ones.  MontanaRightNow
  • On September 6, 2025, a 47-year-old driver in a box truck struck a pedestrian entering her vehicle on E. Front Street near Burger King, and police arrested him on DUI and felony negligent vehicular assault charges—tests confirmed he was heavily intoxicated.  Newstalk KGVO

ECONOMY NEWS

  • UM athletics is a key driver for Montana's economy — it generates nearly $100 million in annual income, creates hundreds of jobs, and boosts local businesses with about $5 million added per home game. Downtown hotels see higher occupancy — which helps regional commerce as fans travel from outside Missoula County.  Missoula Current

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Interior Secretary Doug Burgum signed an order last week that limits how federal funds can add land to the Bureau of Land Management, meaning that future projects for public parks and recreation will be harder to fund. Local conservation groups said the rule adds extra steps—like needing letter approvals—and urged Congress to oppose the change.  Missoula Current

  • Mayor Andrea Davis announced the closure of the Johnson Street shelter after losing $1.8 million in federal funding, and the city has launched the Housing Sprint program to secure permanent housing for those in need. Since April, 114 individuals have been placed in homes, including 50 former shelter guests and veterans who received targeted assistance—marking a new, coordinated approach to addressing homelessness in Missoula.  Missoula Current
