- ➤ On Friday, Missoulians gathered at the University of Montana to honor conservative activist Charlie Kirk after he was fatally shot two days earlier at Utah Valley University. The vigil began shortly after 6 p.m. and ended around 7 p.m. as the Turning Point USA chapter led a prayer + attendees left roses in his memory. Missoula Current

- ➤ A young Georgia hunter who filled his first turkey tag now faces a felony animal cruelty charge in court—his former teacher claimed the wild turkey was her pet. Newstalk KGVO
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ The University of Montana will host its new President’s Lecture Series starting Monday, Sept. 15 with Harvard scholar Robert Putnam speaking at 7 p.m. in the University Center Ballroom or via livestream + the series will continue with Ross Gay on Oct. 30 and Richard Reeves on Nov. 6 to offer local community members a chance to hear insights from leading experts in politics and literature. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ On Friday morning, the Montana Supreme Court heard arguments on Senate Bill 442, a measure that would have redirected marijuana tax funds to county road repairs and wildlife habitat projects until Governor Gianforte vetoed it. The hearing raised questions over a district judge’s mail poll override—only 65 lawmakers supported it—and now attorneys ask the court to review the ruling as the Legislature passed a new proposal. - ➤ Missoula Big Sky earned its first road win over Helena Capital in 30 years by winning 38—0 on Friday night; the Eagles scored early with a 38-yard run and added long touchdown passes while their defense held Helena to no points. Missoulian
- ➤ Hamilton senior Jackson Lubke made 10 receptions for 164 yards and scored a 56-yard touchdown in a 40-0 home win while being named homecoming king—this win set the Broncs at 3-0 and prepares them for upcoming games on Oct. 3 and next Friday. Missoulian
- ➤ On Saturday, the Montana Grizzlies rallied to a 24-23 win over North Dakota in Missoula—drawing a record crowd of fans from young children to seniors. The close game underscored the enduring passion for college football in our community as the team readies for upcoming challenges. Missoulian
- ➤ Montana’s football team rallied in the fourth quarter at Washington-Grizzly Stadium on Saturday to win 24-23 against North Dakota after trailing early—Keali'i Ah Yat threw a 28-yard touchdown pass to Brooks Davis with 95 seconds left, finishing with 300 passing yards. Missoulian
