CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Rudy Autio’s 'Signal' returns to campus as the University of Montana restored the sculpture after it was damaged by the elements; it will be placed on museum grounds along Memorial Row and Athletic Plaza with a reception and unveiling ceremony on October 8 (from 4:00 to 5:30 p.m.). - ➤ Missoula County investigators solved a long-standing case by dating human remains found between June and November 2024, which testing showed are likely of Native American descent from 1780 to 1810—local officials and the Confederated Salish & Kootenai Tribes will ensure the remains are respectfully laid to rest. - ➤ Missoula Haunted House returns at a new outdoor location at Grass Valley Farms as part of Fall Fest, with events scheduled from October 3, 4, 10, 11, 17, 18, 24, and 25 from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m.—guests will face a post-apocalyptic cornfield featuring a cult of cannibals that will operate rain or shine. ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ St. Regis was chosen to join the Pacific Northwest Hydrogen Hub— a $1 billion project that will install a solar array to produce zero-carbon hydrogen fuel for trucks and other vehicles later this year. - ➤ Montana gas prices fell to an average of $3.14 per gallon today after a weekly drop of 4.8 cents—Missoula stations now list about $3.08 per gallon. Prices are 7.9 cents lower than a month ago and 11.7 cents lower than a year ago, according to GasBuddy analyst Patrick De Haan. Newstalk KGVO

- ➤ Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks announced that sections of Ruby, Big Hole and Beaverhead rivers will be closed to fishing beginning October 1 to protect spawning trout during sensitive reproduction periods. Other parts of the rivers will remain open so anglers can still fish—ensuring a balance between recreation and conservation. KPAX

- ➤ The Western Montana State Veterans Cemetery in Missoula will expand after receiving a $1.5M grant from the U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs—this funding will support 300 pre-placed crypts, 820 columbarium niches, roadway enhancements and landscaping to honor veterans. MontanaRightNow
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ The USDA is alerting consumers in Montana about a recall of nearly 58 million pounds of corn dogs from Hillshire Brands due to pieces of wood in the batter and five injuries reported nationwide—customers should check for EST-582 or P-894 on packages and either dispose of the products or return them to stores.
