COMMUNITY NEWS

  • AniMeals is launching a capital campaign to raise $4 million so it can leave its Rankin Street warehouse and build a new feline facility that serves over 500 pets a year. Executive director Janet Rose said the new building—featuring a larger food pantry, surgical suite and expanded health services—will help boost adoptions and improve pet care in Missoula.  KPAX

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Hi-Line farmers battled five years of drought and low wheat prices—forcing Justin Miller near Havre to lay his grain on the ground while he planted winter wheat for next season. Tariffs raised fertilizer and machinery costs, and a Montana State University economist said crop insurance did not cover these rising input prices.  Montana Public Radio
  • Today, a National Park Service report shows that 3.2 million visitors to Glacier National Park spent $458 million and supported almost 5,200 local jobs, while last summer's Zootown Festival generated a $9.1 million economic boost from 30,000 attendees. Other updates include tougher traffic stops in Bozeman, indigenous remains near Missoula returned for a ceremony, care for 42 dogs seized near Shepard, and a $1.5 million plan to expand the Missoula veterans cemetery—each effort addressing a key community need.  Newstalk KGVO

  • Scientists have bred Yellowstone bison free of brucellosis— a breakthrough that may ease Montana ranchers' worries as the first bison head to Colorado and further research could help manage wildlife more safely.  Newstalk KGVO

  • Due to changes in state law, Missoula County will remove impact fees from some development projects and ask an advisory board to review fee assessments to ensure they match county goals—avoiding unauthorized charges. The county will also stop charging admin fees and adjust fee language on inflation to support future projects.  Missoula Current
  • City council member Mike Nugent has delivered affordable housing in Missoula through projects like Villagio Apartments and Ravara by partnering with local agencies—efforts that secure homes for families and offer lasting community benefits.   • Missoula veterans cemetery received a grant on Monday—up to $1,537,769 from the Department of Veterans Affairs’ National Cemetery Administration—for its expansion, and officials say the funds will improve veteran services in the area.  Missoulian
  • In 2024, Missoula airport logged over 1 million passengers for the first time and earned small-hub status—this change raised its federal funding match from 5% to 10%.
