ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Since January, 25 people have died on Highway 93 between Missoula and Kalispell, including 4 women killed in a collision on August 27, and local businesses report regular disruptions while officials and tribal leaders work on safety improvements — though funding delays may slow progress.  KPAX

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Gas prices in Montana dropped 4.9¢ per gallon last week and averaged $3.07 per gallon on Monday, Oct. 13 — a value that is 14.2¢ lower than a month ago and 11.3¢ lower than last year.  KPAX
  • The Montana Department of Commerce will offer $300,000 in agritourism grants to help farmers and ranchers add new revenue options — the program accepts applications until Oct. 23 as part of a renewed funding cycle approved by recent legislation.  KPAX

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Missoula County Public Schools board will vote tonight to accept trustee Koan Mercer’s resignation that he submitted on September 24, marking the third turnover on the board this year.  Missoulian

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • On October 20, the Montana Land Board will vote on the Montana Great Outdoors Conservation Easement that covers nearly 53,000 acres of private timberland in northwest Montana. The second phase will add to last year's approval for a total of more than 85,000 protected acres—ensuring public access for hunting, hiking, and continued timber production.  KPAX

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Montana Motor Vehicle Division is accepting Chrome for Kids Wish Fund applications from nonprofits that grant wishes to chronically or seriously ill children while a $20 donation from motorcycle and quadricycle registrations supports the program. Local nonprofits must submit their applications by November 10 (deadline set by the legislature) (applications will fund ongoing wish programs).  KPAX
  • The Montana Department of Transportation will host an open house for the Sixmile Creek Wildlife Crossing Study on October 21 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Ninemile Community Center in Huson+ a virtual event will run from October 22 to November 12 so community members can learn about plans to replace an old culvert with two open-span bridges that help safely guide wildlife along Interstate 90.  KPAX
  • Missoula’s north side saw a traffic calming project begin Monday, October 13, with crews installing stop signs and traffic circles at intersections between Scott St., I-90, Orange St., and the railroad tracks to slow vehicles and reduce cut‐through traffic.   • The Grizzly Scholarship Association announced that its game-worn copper, gold, and silver throwback jerseys from the 30th anniversary are up for auction—bidding opened on October 13th at 2 p.m. and will resume with a session on Wednesday at 8 p.m. to benefit the University.  Newstalk KGVO
  • The No. 4 Montana Grizzlies showed their strength in a game today as head coach Bobby Hauck said the team proved it can win in different ways. The performance underscored the program's focus on versatility and teamwork for future contests.  Missoulian
