COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Lawn Mower House, a pink home on North Avenue with a once-growing display of lawn mowers, is gone after its repairman owner passed away. The house will be remodeled and a new lawn planted—marking the end of a quirky chapter in Missoula history.  Newstalk KGVO

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Sentinel High School nearly doubled its trees on campus after a 2024 wind storm cut about 25% of its trees—school officials say the project could serve as a model for other campuses.  Missoulian

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • KPAX reporter Caroline Weiss completed a week-long program with the Crown of the Continent Institute that improved her environmental reporting skills—she will use her new ideas in an upcoming Montana Ag Network report scheduled for Sunday.  KPAX
  • At Wednesday’s meeting, Montana water experts explained that shifting rainfall patterns have left parts of the state in severe drought—plans to install more weather stations and secure ongoing funding aim to improve data collection so farmers can access federal aid.  Missoula Current
  • NOAA forecasts a Kp rating of 5 that may let Montana residents see the Northern Lights tonight if cloud cover clears—experts advise heading to dark, rural areas for a clear view.  Newstalk KGVO

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • City officials and the Redevelopment Agency are inviting the public to view plans for Midtown Commons, a major project on the old Southgate Crossing site. An open house is set for October 22 to present housing and site plans and a park design workshop will take place November 19 to gather feedback on a new 1.5-acre park—city leaders expect the project to boost Midtown's walkability.  MontanaRightNow

SPORTS NEWS

  • Missoula Hellgate won a five-set match over the Spartans to keep their Western AA title hopes alive—this win came less than two weeks after a similar five-set victory.  Missoulian
  • Montana Grizzly fans have a chance to buy 1995 throwback gear (30th championship anniversary) at a sale run by the Grizzly Scholarship Association. A technical glitch was resolved earlier, and orders must be placed by Wednesday the 22nd with special signed items set for auction while pickups occur in early 2026.  KPAX
  • College Gameday gifted the Montana Grizzlies a signed helmet that will be auctioned later — the helmet features autographs from well-known figures like Rece Davis and Nick Saban. The throwback uniform auction website broke from heavy traffic by Griz fans.  Newstalk KGVO
