- ➤ On Tuesday, four wildlife advocacy groups filed a request in Lewis and Clark County district court for a temporary restraining order and preliminary injunction to keep the 2024 wolf season rules after the Fish, Wildlife & Parks commission raised the wolf quota, a change that could kill over 500 wolves. The groups argued that the new rules risk severe population decline and genetic erosion (a situation that may lead to inbreeding) and noted that the state's estimate of 1,091 wolves (a figure some experts question) might overstate the true number.
