COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Missoula’s annual S.O.S. Fair starts today at the fairgrounds with a drop-off for used winter gear from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and the sale will run tomorrow from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.—locals can swap items like skis, boots, and snowboards while the event supports the Snowbowl Ski Patrol amid Montana’s recession.  Newstalk KGVO
  • The Montana Food Bank Network recently unveiled its new $13.5M headquarters on Alloy North Road in Missoula+ the move comes as inflation drags on and affects project costs.  Missoulian

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Montana’s Superintendent of Public Instruction sent a letter on Monday reminding school districts to follow House Bill 819, which limits flag displays on public property to official government flags. Billings said it will enforce the law despite Missoula and Bozeman adopting the pride flag as their official city flag — teachers are expected to follow the state mandate.  KPAX

  • Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks released its 2025 hunting season forecast that shows elk, deer, and pronghorn numbers will vary by region (some areas benefited from a mild winter while others are still recovering).   • The City of Missoula has released a new stormwater plan to protect its sole source aquifer by prioritizing the replacement of the 10 most critical dry wells—an effort that will also explore green infrastructure to filter runoff from hard surfaces.  KPAX

  • State regulators are hosting listening sessions to gather public input on proposed greenhouse gas rules that will guide agencies in following a court order from a landmark climate case—comments are being accepted.  Missoulian
  • Gov. Greg Gianforte promoted Montana products during his trade mission to Korea and Japan, where he met with business leaders to discuss growing trade in agriculture, energy and technology. He highlighted Montana exports—wheat, beef and coal—and urged further international investment to boost local jobs.  KPAX
  • Missoula installed new traffic lights at Orange and Wyoming to ease delays for drivers — local residents have urged the city to add signals on Reserve Street and at train crossings for improved safety.  Newstalk KGVO
  • Missoula city is updating the Grant Creek Restoration Project to shrink the floodplain from 103 acres to 10 acres and to expand stormwater treatment for better water quality.   • Missoula Hellgate clinched a playoff berth with a win that coach Paffhausen said was for their coach — the team will push ahead in its culture-changing season. They will build on the momentum as they aim for further playoff success.  Missoulian
  • Montana's soccer team clinched its third consecutive Big Sky regular-season title with a 1-0 win over Portland State after Maddie Ditta scored a decisive penalty kick (the first three-peat in league history). They finished the season with an 11-3-3 record and will head into the Big Sky tournament as the No. 1 seed (the tournament starts Nov. 5 at South Campus Stadium in Missoula).  Missoula Current
  • On Friday, Missoula Hellgate earned a State AA quarterfinal win in boys soccer with Shefloe's heroics—sending them to the semifinals as Kalispell Glacier also secured a win. Their semifinal opponents will be decided today.  Missoulian
  • Montana Grizzly football beat Sacramento State 49-35 last Friday night—coming back from an early deficit with Michael Wortham scoring three touchdowns—and advanced to an 8-0 record as Sacramento State prepares for a move to the FBS.
