COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Missoula Food Bank switched to a pre-packed box system as record numbers of families seek food help due to SNAP delays from the government shutdown — executive director Amy Allison said the change ensures everyone gets consistent service. The bank expects demand to rise further if the delays continue.  KPAX

CULTURE NEWS

  • Country singer Zach Top stayed in Missoula after his Montana shows to kick field goals at Washington-Grizzly Stadium—he challenged Pat McAfee to have him on his show if he made a 30-yard field goal. Top performed at Halloween shows in Billings and recently wrote a song celebrating Montana.  Newstalk KGVO

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • A pair of hunters shot and possibly killed two grizzly bears on Pyramid Pass Trail near Seeley Lake when the bears charged them as they retrieved a mule deer buck they had hunted earlier today. Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks advises visitors to carry bear spray and follow safety measures—posting signs at the trailhead to warn of bear activity.  MontanaRightNow

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Montana Fish, Wildlife, and Parks and donors celebrated the groundbreaking of Montana Wild’s new avian building on November 5— the project, costing about $860,000, will be completed in spring to allow visitors a public view of ambassador raptors on the west side and provide extra rehabilitation space on the east.  KPAX
  • Hellgate Elks donated $14,000 in winter clothing to Missoula County Public Schools through its Warmth for Winter program that has given over $38,000 in gear to nearly 9,000 students, and Flathead voters approved a $105 million jail bond to fund a new public safety facility expected to take about three years. Ryan Hunter was elected as Kalispell's new mayor — he became the city's first in 12 years after defeating Kisa Davison and Sid Daoud and will take office next January.  KPAX
  • Missoula Airport is preparing for travel delays due to a shutdown in Washington and planned FAA cuts that may cancel flights on other routes. Airport Director Brian Ellestad said it is unclear if these changes will affect MSO—travelers should check their flight status.  Missoula Current

HEALTH NEWS

  • St. Patrick Hospital has increased its security in Missoula and Polson after a rise in violence and illegal weapons on its campuses. The hospital said its security team will use Tasers and body cameras—activated only when needed—to de-escalate dangerous encounters and keep the campuses weapons-free.  Missoula Current
