ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Families in Broadwater County grieve over lives lost on Highway 287 near Silos Rd and say lower speed limits and road safety studies are needed to reduce fatal crashes. ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Montana Forest Consultants are helping property owners up Highway 12 near Lolo restore their land after a wildfire by reforesting, managing vegetation, and clearing debris. The group uses a $10,000 funding package from The Climate Trust and USDA to support recovery efforts — work that may take a century, if not longer, to complete.  KPAX
  • Restoration work at Lost Horse Creek in the Bitterroot Mountains faced delays after federal cuts cancelled $900,000 in funding and postponed contractor bids. Conservation groups now plan to shift to smaller projects (using alternative funding) as layoffs and reduced Forest Service support add hurdles to more improvements.  Montana Public Radio
  • Roughly halfway through the general rifle season in west-central Montana, hunters have bagged more deer than usual while the elk harvest has declined + state data shows the change in game populations.  Missoulian
  • On November 11th, residents across Western Montana witnessed a strong display of the Northern Lights—vibrant colors lit up the night sky. Clear conditions helped many enjoy the rare natural spectacle.  KPAX

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • City Engineer Kevin J. Slovarp said today the city and the Montana Department of Transportation are studying the busy Highway 93 intersection with Miller Creek after safety and congestion concerns were raised—no major improvements are planned soon due to the risks of adding signals or extra lanes that could worsen delays.  Newstalk KGVO

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • A state study found that federal housing vouchers were not keeping up with rising rents, so on July 1 an extra $20 million was added to the program. Housing authorities in Helena and Missoula have used the increased funds to help more families secure one-bedroom rentals — though larger units remain hard to find.  Montana Public Radio
